Honda Fit Stands Alone in its Class
Other brands try to distract with variable engine options, “optional” bells and whistles, and some kind of style that’s unique to the subcompact market. The Honda Fit offers plenty of standard features and one single, powerful engine option, along with the most reliability in its class. It also outranks most competitors in safety, with best-value pricing, making it the clear winner every time.
Honda Fit Overview
The new Honda Fit offers a greenhouse of glass around the cabin, offering some of the best visibility in a subcompact. With 33 mpg city and 41 mpg highway, this car is more than efficient when it comes to fuel economy. Plus, for its size, the Fit has some of the biggest cargo space in the subcompact market, with 60/40 rear folding seats for even more space. Let’s see how it stacks up against the competition.
Honda Fit vs. Toyota Yaris
The Toyota Yaris offers impressive safety features and standard technology with an attractive cabin, but they still haven’t updated the transmissions in these vehicles and the seating comfort is less than ideal. The Honda Fit also gets much higher safety scores, and higher rankings all around, beating Yaris in most areas and in the overall rating category. Their pricing is similar, as is their gas mileage, but the Honda Fit includes nicer seating and better cabin materials for the class.
Honda Fit vs. Nissan Versa
The Nissan Versa offers a slightly lower price point than the Honda Fit, but it ranks significantly lower in every other category when ranked by most major ranking authorities. The Versa offers very few standard features with limited engine performance and less-than-interesting dynamic driving experiences. The Fit, on the other hand, has a powerful engine for its size, as well as plenty of standard features and included infotainment.
Honda Fit vs. Ford Fiesta
The Fiesta sings praise for style, with body lines that set it apart from the rest of its class. However, when compared to the Honda Fit, reliability and cargo space just can’t measure up. The Fiesta offers slightly better fuel economy and multiple engine options, but, again, the Fit fights back with its reliability, which is what most subcompact shoppers are looking for. The optional 197 hp engine in the ST variant turns the Fiesta into a rally car-worthy model, but the continuously variable transmission in the Fit just beckons to the budget shopper.
Honda Fit vs. Kia Soul
The Kia Soul was originally defined by its style, and personality remains at the forefront of its selling power. While the cargo space and customization options are plentiful, base models lack a selection of standard features; and although it claims to seat five, there is room for a comfortable four passengers. Kia might have a variety of engine options, but the seven-speed transmission confusion makes that seem like too much of a good thing. The Honda Fit might only have a single engine option, but it’s a solid engine that delivers every time. The Soul wins the popularity contest, but Fit is the real winner in terms of quality, value, and safety.
