Honda Passport: Best Value + Superior Safety & Reliability
The Honda Passport offers everything that drivers love about the Pilot in a smaller footprint. This off-road-capable vehicle meets or exceeds mpg ratings for all other similar vehicles in its class, and has some of the best-in-class safety and reliability ratings. Plus, the Passport has a little more horsepower for those looking for eco-friendly options without giving up any power. The competition tries, and their models are comparable, but the Passport is the all-around winner in this comparison.
Honda Passport Overview
The Honda Passport offers above-average interior room and ride handling, with off-road abilities and a host of standard driver assist and safety features. This vehicle is essentially a smaller offering for those who enjoy the space of the Pilot without the huge price tag. The Passport isn’t the cheapest in its class, but it offers plenty of cargo room, passenger room, and safety features for the money. Plus, it offers an optional i-VTM all-wheel drive and multi-mode terrain settings for all of your off-roading adventures. Equipped with a 3.5 liter V6 engine and a nine-speed automatic transmission, the Passport offers quiet, powerful operation.
Passport vs. Ford Edge
Priced slightly lower, the current model Ford Edge comes in with a 2.0 liter EcoBoost engine standard, with an optional 2.7 liter EcoBoost V6 available on the ST sport trim. The Edge has a roomy interior with room for a variety of options, including heated and vented front seats, a 12-speaker sound system, panoramic moonroof, and optional self-parking system. Of course, these are optional features, as are most of the driver assist safety features, many of which come standard on the Honda Passport.
Honda Passport vs. Toyota 4Runner
The Toyota 4Runner starts about $3,000 higher than the Honda Passport, offering stellar off-roading capability with ample cargo room. The 4Runner also has above-average reliability ratings, but those can often be overlooked with the vehicle’s tired interior design and less-than-stellar fuel economy. The Passport offers more spacious seats and plenty of engine power. The 4Runner is great for only going off road, but when you want a reliable vehicle with decent off-road capabilities, the Passport wins every time.
Honda Passport vs. Subaru Ascent
The Subaru Ascent competes well with the Passport in terms of MSRP and invoice pricing. It offers a comfortable 26-27 mpg highway and seating for seven or eight passengers where the Passport only offers seating for five. The Ascent offers spacious front seat space for the driver and passenger, with a small footprint that is ideal for small spaces and tight corners. However, the Passport still offers more engine capabilities and a better overall features-for-value comparison. The Ascent has slightly less horsepower and while it offers more seating, it doesn’t have as much utility space as the Passport. With similar warranties, the Honda Passport is clearly the winner.
