Winter Car Care Tips

Southern California may not experience very cold winters, but this doesn’t mean that it’s residents don’t ever head out to areas that do. For those who do so by car, it is very important to know just how to prepare their vehicle for the cold, so that they avoid running into issues with their Honda CRV from Los Angeles or Honda HRV from Los Angeles because they were simply poorly prepared for the cold weather.

Tires

The first thing one should keep in mind when heading to an area that experiences cold winters is to switch their tires to snow ones. Indeed, snow tires are much safer to drive on snow or on ice, because they are better at making contact with the road than normal tires. In addition, one should be sure that the tire pressure is where it’s supposed to be at, and that the snow tires are not very worn out.

Battery

The batteries of any car, including a Honda CRV from Los Angeles or a Honda HRV from Los Angeles have a much harder time functioning when the weather is very cold. As such, one should go to a mechanic to have their battery checked, to make sure that it is strong enough to work even in cold weather. The last thing one wants is to get stuck somewhere where it’s very cold.

Antifreeze

Antifreeze is very important for winter, because it ensures that the engine doesn’t freeze. As such, one should be sure to check that the coolant levels are high and that there are no leaks.

Lights

Since winter months experience much shorter days, one will have to drive their Honda CRV from Los Angeles or Honda HRV from Los Angeles in the dark a whole lot more. As such, one should ensure that their exterior lights are working properly. If this is not the case, then the light bulb should be replaced.

Wiper

The wipers typically only last for about a year. Now, during the winter, these things have to be in great shape, because they are bound to have more work to do, either because of more rain or because they have to clear snow or ice. As such, if one notices that their wipers aren’t in that great of a condition, they should be sure to replace them.

Full Tank

During the winter, it’s best to keep the gas tank full. This is because accumulated water can freeze inside of the fuel pump. In addition, in case one gets stuck, having a full tank of gas will enable them to keep the car running until it gets unstuck.
