Signs A Car May Need Service

Part of being a responsible car owner is trying to get ahead of issues with a vehicle rather than constantly reacting to different issues as they arise. This can take a variety of different forms, from getting preventative maintenance done on a regular basis to trying to see potential issues before they start. So, from a Honda Accord in Los Angeles to many other cars, it’s important for owners to keep their eyes peeled for some of these signs that a car needs to be serviced and soon.

Car makers understand that not everyone is going to see different symptoms ahead of time. This is why most cars use different computers and sensors on the engine to figure out exactly when something is either malfunctioning or is not in alignment with the way it was meant to work according to factory specifications. When this happens, a check engine light appears on the dashboard. However, not every check engine light is the same, as different options require different levels of urgency. A regular check engine light means there’s an issue that needs to be looked at in the near future, but not instantly.

A flashing engine light is a different issue entirely. This is an urgent issue, which may also be an emissions problem, which, if left unchecked, can end up damaging the catalytic converter. Remember, the whole point of acting quickly when it comes to repairing issues is that a driver doesn’t have to pay more money down the line due to a larger repair.

Another easy physical indicator that determines a repair is a leak under the the car. Note that there’s a difference between this and fresh water that drips from the front near the passenger’s side, especially during the summer months. In terms of other leaks, though, it’s key to take a close look at what exactly the fluid looks like. Bright green liquid could potentially be coolant, while dark red/brown could mean engine oil, brake fluid, or transmission oil. Not only can a smaller leak turn into a big leak if left unattended, but it may cost more over time in fluid replacements.

Finally, one common indicator of car trouble is when the vehicle is if makes strange noises that it hasn’t before, especially when braking or coming to a stop. This could be a sign that the brake pads or other brake components need to be replaced, as these naturally wear down with use.
